KompoZer, the Dreamweaver alternative for Linux

with 2 comments

Users habituated with Adobe Dreamweaver, the web development application (available only for Microsoft Windows) find it hard to migrate to GNU/Linux systems. Having used Dreamweaver myself, I think its features are hard to match and one surely misses such web development application in GNU/Linux systems. You can always use Wine to install and use Dreamweaver if you have a decent memory and processor. There are, however, a host of native applications meant for web development in GNU/Linux systems. Bluefish, Quanta, Screem are some examples.

KompoZer (forked from NVU), is one very useful application that can make you forget Dreamweaver. It is a free software (open-source) that’s very easy to use, super-fast, very reliable and standards compliant. It is based on Gecko, Mozilla’s engine that is maintained on a daily basis by a wide community of developers. LinuxMini writes that it has a remarkable support for XML, CSS and JavaScript and being based on XUL, it is the most extensible editing tool ever. More features are listed in its official website. It has been localized to many languages. Debian and Red Hat packages and installers for Windows and Mac systems are available too.

Go, get it and have fun ! Share your experiences too.

$ sudo apt-get install kompozer

  1. I have been using Kompozer and I testify to its simplicity and ease of use and still getting things done for me. I agree that it is probably the best alternative for Dreamweaver.
