The festival of lights
Today is the fourth day of Tihar, the festival of lights. Look at these pictures. Of all places, does Nepal seem to be celebrating the festival of lights? The satellite night-images (taken prior to Tihar) are indicators of how developed places are. The brighter the better. I love the night time and the phrase “carpe noctum” (a pun on carpe diem). Tihar, being a festival of the night and lightings, is my favorite. But the darkness on these pictures failed to fascinate me.

Bibek,
I think they aren’t candle lights only
They are city lights + maybe a little bit of candle light source that converge toward the satellite camera.

hmm..so i am guessing the carpe noctem means- seize the night! ..Those images just reminded me. They are the ones who wasted or over utilized the Earth resources. and now they tell US to be aware of the Global warming effects or save the mother Earth. yeah right! We probably haven’t even used 2% of the entire resources.

Hye Bibek, these are nice photos..Well but I don’t think its from the festival lights, yaar. Long time back, when I was studying Solar System, our lecturer had showed us similar photos to show the difference between the Developed Nation and Under-Developed Nation.. the difference lies cause, many ares in developing nations like Nepal doesnot have ascess to Electricity. But as we move to Developed nations, the electrification is obviously, axpected.
