Dr. Baburam Bhattarai writes to his facebook friends

Senior Maoist (CPN-Maoist) leader and Finance Minister of Nepal, Dr Baburam Bhattarai has published a hand-written letter addressing his Facebook friends.

Though I may not subscribe to all that Dr Bhattarai stands for, I highly appreciate this step of responding to his internet audience. By reaching out his facebook “friends”, he has proven that the profile is genuine in addition to demonstrating the power provided by the internet to reach out to a larger audience. He has appreciated the role and importance of youths in their 20s and 30s, and of those staying outside Nepal. I want to see some mechanism in the governance to collect the ideas of such people (youths) into an idea-pool and make them the guiding path of the government. Though the day may be far, there’s no harm in dreaming.

You may want to read my earlier post in which I requested Dr Bhattarai to understand the ways of the internet.

Note: Sources close to Dr Bhattarai say that he read 25-page of comments from his facebook friends on the 2nd of November. They also inform that there will be a coverage in Kantipur Television tonight about Dr. Bhattarai’s facebook activities.

  1. Man don’t you regard this as aftereffect of your early post? Dunno why but I feel there was something that urges him to post handwritten letter, even though he didn’t talk about your letter anywhere.

  2. I agree with the above comment. I suspect your blog post might have urged him to post that letter. Nevertheless I am relieved to know that his facebook account is genuine in the sense that at least he takes the trouble of reading the comments and is endorsed by the real Baburam. This is the most any politician from Nepal has ever done in terms of communicating with citizens in this day and age of social networking and Web 2.0+ I hope other politicians take note and take similar measures to be accessible to us via the web.

  3. Yes, I too agree with Ankur that, your earlier post has the main() role for his letter.

    (Funny:5)
I think he was in tooo tight schedule of building neW nepaL that he forgot a step of the revolutionary style of using computer. If not so, he would have posted a snap of a computer screen displaying the scanned copy of his “hand-written” paper.

  5. has a very sentimental tone in encouraging young minds to act and also the sentiment that in future no Nepalese child has to look aboard for opportunity. gr8t.

  6. Hi all, yes the earlier post had some role to play. But for obvious reasons, it wouldn’t be mentioned. Some things are better kept unofficial. But this is exactly what I wanted to call the “power of the internet.” Agree with Himanshu, “I hope other politicians take note and take similar measures to be accessible to us via the web.” Our leaders should reach out to our generation, to us, to be precise and realize that we are important and our voices matter.

Just as I said, “I want to see some mechanism in the governance to collect the ideas of such people (youths) into an idea-pool and make them the guiding path of the government. Though the day may be far, there’s no harm in dreaming.”

  9. Dear Mr. Bibek ji,
That facebook is not a genuine facebook by baburam ji… Thats sth by his aasepasee.. or to be on the point that is run by Mr arsehole sunil regmi.. his cunning effort have made that possible.. the letter is the example of deliberation from Dr baburam in response to what SUNIL regmi’s request to show the response to his bhajan… after all maoist also like the bhajan same as king gyanendra.. Have you ever noticed the same time Dr. Baburam bhattarai and sunil regmi update their facebook .. how could that happpen.. moreover the ip adress of the message was found similar.. so its a form of propaganda runed by Mr regmi.. dont get under it..

  10. Great work Bibek. I am very less worried about the authenticity of the information. You and other folks out here are smart enough to ensure that.

I am excited to see Baburam being active in the Web world. Also, the letter he has written is motivating. Hope we all work together, and build a new and prosperous Nepal.

  18. A good initiation, and something that must be commended but it will be too early to make a comment on Dr. Bhattarai only on the basis of this face book alone. What he really needs to do, as I personally feel, is he needs to be able to assess a good pool of even apolitical people who are capable to do something but lagging behind just due to nasty political frustration. As there was a system earlier that the state automatically recognized the university toppers and used them appropriately. Dr. Bhattarai can take an initiation to interact with the cream productions who are at present repressed in different circumstances.
I am afraid I mentioned this point as a response to his latest remark that there is the crisis of talented people in politics but he might be quick enough to response that it is not his department but of FORUM…MRS RENU YADAVA…….
I beg your mercy Dr. Bhattarai if I happened to speak wrong.

  19. To
    Finnance Minister
    Dr. Baburam Bhattari

Dear Mr Bhattari, let me first thank you for what your greatest contribution for the country. It was were greatest vision and strategy that brought the country into this stage ” Federal Republic of Nepal. You have continously fought for this, risiking your life. But you won it at last. Congratualtion !!

However, i am very upset to see some Vigilantes that roam around you, to take an example ,i have been hearing that you have hired Krishna Raj Acharya as your economic advisor ( or the party’s economic advisor). I was shocked to see him behind you in many of the interaction programs, seminars and procession. The party also made him the CA candidate in the interim parliament.

But, i wonder how a party like CPN Maoist, and person like you made a great mistake to Judge the person. He was the greates Vigilantes that i have personally seen. He has feudal background, he was never a marxist or a maoist. He is sycophants, he changed his religion from Hindu to Christianity to earn dollars. When he was the chairman of Gandaki Noodles, he amassed huge some of money, he paid low wages to workers and made them work for long hours.

He joined UML hoping that he will get some big portfolios, even married his son with the daughter of Bharat Mohan Adhikari. But when he did not get anything he left the party.

When CPN Moaist ( Party) was in undergroud stage, he went to USA. He used to say that the Moaist want huge sum of money that is why he is leaving the country. He is petty broker who does everyting for money, he used to apply for 20 to 50 telephones with his relatives name and sell that at profit, he is engaged in land brokering buisness, export illegal thing to US. He is so cheap and corrupt. He is a petty rascal who is not eligible for anything.

Therefore, I humbly request you to be aware of these vigilantes who spoil and rotte our greatest party, who is build for the poletariate. Let’s wipe these gargbages from the party, and make our party look clean and green

I do not believe to the hand typed letter given in the facebook of Baburam because I had read a book written by Arun Sayami where he had given the remark about the Baburam that Baburam had the very nice handwriting and he had not seen such handwriting before. As I see this letter I do believe whether Sayami is wrong or somebody else has written all this.

  24. To finance minister
    Baburam Bhattarai
Most respectfully I would to draw your attention over the present economic situation of Nepal. I have not forgotten your saying that you are launching economic policy like the jumping movement of frog. It is your misfortune that the world is facing economic depression bitterly and you can’t escape from it. The loadshading problem make almost all the industies shut down. In this crucial moment kindly Sir tell me what would be your future policy to get ride of such problem. Anyway the step that you have taken is appreciable. Now you have challange to lead the country in peaceful existence by stopping the wrong deed of your party cadres who are shouwing semi militarian behave in the name of YCL. If you do not check this so soon you’ll have no good result in future politics.

  25. Dear leader com.Baburam bhattarai
I am writing you about the present situation what I found. There are a lots of things we most change in our country. The corruption is major things we most control and we most adress the oppressed people’s demand. All the oppressed class peoples want liberation from supression. But in our party aslo give birth the higher class within party. There is also the contradiction between have and havenot in our society and we can also observed in our party in some places, old and new party cader, in some places nepotism also can observed. The party cadder who involved in peoples war and they loss their all things are not satisfy. Some leader and cader show like revolutionary only to catch the golden oppertunity and they arround the leader only for this purpose.I hope you always be careful those type of people and caddre. Now I got the appointment in Taragaun development comettee,we have challenge to change it.We purpose restruturing and strategic planing of this organization but we have some constraint. We focus on rural tourism sector and it is nesessary also because here is not a authentic national level organization.
Our supporter prepared a master plan of Gorkha tourism development submitted to the Jica.Jica need the letter from ministry to impliment this.so I want to meet you to talk about those things.

  29. Mr.Bhattarai,
In my personal view coming to peace process was raw decision made in huury. The social, political and economical change expected at the start of the equipped rebel have not been met a single percent. So,the proletarians whose will and expectations after 10 years glorious rebel has no been fullfilled. I humbly request you to prepare a strong foundation for last and decisive revolution. We most of the youth(progressive)will every time be ready to align with the revolutionary war as we all know that transition makes noone comfortable and satisfied. So, I finally request you to not to subduct in the parliamentary sewage.

  31. Dear Dr. Bhattarai,
I would like to congratulate you for being appointed as the first Finance minister of federal republic of Nepal though belated. It was really a break through for you and Nepal to come to this stage in such a small span of time. We have had so many hopes on you and maoist, and believed as the peoples party. However, we are getting disappointed from you and your comrades. Extortion is still going on. Your cadres are coming to the different institutes for extortions in the name students election now. They claim that centre have decided to lavy 200000, 300000,etc. Can’t you engage your cadres in some productive works? They use to threat us. Is this your party policy? Would like you to atleast go through it.
The nation has a high hopes on you.

  32. Dear Dr. Bhattarai,

In first week of February when I was outside this country in meeting the foreigner jokingly said, why should we provide you money? You have load shedding for 16-18 hours, when can you work to utilize the received fund ?

Now even carpenter, grill worker need electricity to use their tool. All computer using professionals are also dependent on electricity to win their daily bread. The nation wish for immediate solution to this energy crisis. May be the electricity should come from China at least to the capital or help may be asked with this good neighbor. General feel is that people are out of profession (Job) and are left with hunger and unnecessary free time which they may use with anguish and involve in rivalry action towards the Government. Therefore the situation must be improved and taken urgently.

Just if we could have a transportation link with China it will be a great leap towards modernization, as India and Pakistan are also trying for the same from their own territory.

I wish you very best for your positive thinking and endeavors.

  37. It is a very big shame that the condition of the country is detoriating day by day. As you have stated in your speech that our nation will be making progress that is at least with double digit figure. But it seems that with the current situation it is -(negative) double digit.

I just recall the incident that the prime minister inaugurated the MADHYA MARSYANGDI hydro power but from the very next day the loadshedding hour was increased to 16 hours from 12.

mr. minister do you have any justification that why we always depend on others? As you guys been saying right from the beginning that we want to be self sustained and do not want any foreign assistance as we can do.

I also recall when your wife became minister for the first time, an interview was held and she was asked how she felt as you guys have been involved in destruction, what she said was without destroying the old thing you cannot build new things. Is this a logical answer,

  40. Dear Sir,

I wish to felicitate you from he core of my heart for your yeomen contributions to the lofty transformation of Nepal into a proud Republic.

I have learnt about you a lot for your intellectual attributes as much as your nationalistic & Statesmanly initiatives. You are a genius par excelence and in fact, are one whose indulgence Nepal missed all these decades in its process of developmental evolution, which somehow has been marred by a variety of reasons.

The plalanx of new ideas you have promulgated into governance deserve expeditious implementation, as, needless to say, our people are very badly in need of redressal which has eluded them thus far.

You were in exile for a long time as a frontline leader of a huge movement, and I, a small entity though, am in exile even now – after doing my bit and after destroying all my family possessions to create a paradigm of a free Press in Nepal through the medium of “Kantipur”. I put in all my time, energy and each penny that we ha while dreaming of a transformed and enlightened Nepal, only to be found pushed into wilderness.

No regrets, as long as the beloved nation sees the light of the Day under the auspices of Statesmen like you.

As an epilogue, I wis to reiterate my highest sense of appreciation for your scientific approach to the transfomation of the nation in all respects: Economic; Social & Political.

I wish you all the very best always,
    Kind Regards
